SIDNEY – The Springboro Panthers traveled to Sidney Friday night and were met with some challenging field conditions to go along with the Yellow Jackets.  The field at Memorial Stadium had been torn up the week before in a home contest against Fairborn and with a lot of rain thru the week and then an in-game weather system, the field was reduced to a mud pit.  But, behind 275 yards rushing by Kyle Longworth and a stout defensive performance, the Panthers beat Sidney 34-6 for a much needed win on the road.

The Springboro defense contained the Yellow Jacket offense for most of the night, holding Sidney to 161 yards of total offense.  Springboro defensive back Jalen Campbell also picked up a fumble and returned it for a touchdown for the Panther’s first defensive score of the year.  Jack Schaaf and Jaimie Anderson each picked off Sidney passes enroute to 4 caused turnovers on a sloppy night.

Springboro’s offense was able to get some traction and put up some impressive numbers on the night.  Quarterback Josh Little completed 9 of 16 passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns and Campbell added 128 yards to Longworth’s totals.  Overall, the Panthers rolled up 492 yards of offense on the down trodden Yellow Jacket defense.

The Springboro defense was able to get their first 3rd quarter shut-out of the season Friday night which stopped Sidney from capitalizing on 2 third quarter turnovers by the Panthers.  The offense was then able to control the football for much of the 4th quarter and took a knee deep in Sidney territory to end the game.

The Panthers now begin GWOC South play this week as the Fairborn Skyhawks come to CareFlight Field for the Springboro’s homecoming.  The Panthers are looking to defend their GWOC South title from last season.  The Skyhawks come into the game riding a 3 game win streak behind current GWOC South passing leader Kendrick Williams.
