SPRINGBORO – The Centerville Elks improved their season record to 2-3 and put a stop to the Springboro Panthers upset bid midway through the 2nd quarter. The first quarter ended with the score 7-3, thanks to a Ty Smith field goal. But, two costly turnovers in the 2nd quarter that led to Centerville scores made the 28-10 first half deficit too much for the Panthers to overcome. Centerville controlled the ball in the second half and cruised to a 55-17 victory.
The Elks were led by senior running back Chris Barr who had 164 yards rushing on 28 carries and scored 3 TDs. In total, Centerville rushed for 440 yards on the night. Kyle Longworth led Springboro rushers with 66 yards on 18 carries and Josh Little threw for a score and ran one in as well.
The Panthers hope to get the second half of their season started on the right note next Friday as they make the long journey up to Sidney to take on the 0-5 Yellow Jackets.
