SPRINGBORO – Tyler Jones rushed for 289 yards on 26 carries for Butler to spoil Springboro’s Pee Wee Football Night at CareFlight field. A packed house watched the Butler Aviators roll up 386 yards total rushing behind Notre Dame commit Taylor Decker and Ball State commit Miles Eaton. They combined that with QB Ryne Pugh’s perfect 7 for 7 throwing performance and a kick-off returned for a TD by Mark Tindall to total 56 points in the 56-35 setback.
The Panthers offense was a bright spot on the night with Josh Little completing 19 of 26 throws for 193 yards and 2 TDs. Springboro also got great production from receivers Jake Johnson and Jack Schaaf. Schaaf was the game’s leading receiver with 11 catches for 114 yards and Johnson had 5 big strikes for 106 yards and 3 TDs. Boro runningback Brandon Walker also contributed 76 yards rushing and 2 TDs on 10 carries.
Early season injuries continue to plague the hard-luck Panthers as they went into this game without 2 starters on defense and 2 starters on offense. Runningback Jalen Campbell and Walker both left the game with injuries and did not return. The Panthers will hope to get healthy this week as they take to the road against the 2-1 Troy Trojans next Friday night.
