FACILITIES - Bruce Smith Training Facility at Careflight Field
New Training Facility to Bear the Name of Coach Smith
The new weight training facility at CareFlight Field will pay honor to a man who has meant more to Springboro football and Springboro athletics than perhaps anyone else, Bruce Smith. Bruce is the all-time winningest football coach in Springboro history. He also coached the Panthers for the most seasons, leading the team thru 14 campaigns. Coach Smith's career was highlighted with a string of 4 FAVC championships in a row including a perfect 10-0 season in 1982.
Upon leaving the coaching profession, Bruce went on to lead the growth of athletics in Springboro as the district athletic director. More than the accomplishments on the football field or the leadership that he provided in the athletic department, Bruce Smith will be known for the many lives that he touched and influenced over the course of his career in education at Springboro. This outpouring of affection was shown recently as Bruce lost his courageous battle with cancer.
Bruce Smith's legacy will live on even now as Springboro enters a new era in the athletic department with the upcoming opening of the new Educare facility. The building, located at CareFlight Field will house locker rooms, coaches offices, meeting rooms and a brand-new, state-of-the-art weight room that will forever be known at the Bruce Smith Training Facility. By bearing his name, all of the future Panthers who train to compete in this fine facility will come to know the name Bruce Smith and what it means to the Springboro athletic community.
YOU CAN HELP HONOR BRUCE SMITH:
The purchasing of the weight training equipment will be done through private donations. All names of those who donate will be displayed in the facility in honor of Bruce Smith. Former Panther's who contribute will also have a graduation year listed. To make a contribution, please email Ryan Wilhite.
